For “Three Refugees and a Half” I let absence tell the story. We see only legs — three adults and one small child, the “half” — stopped at three sagging lines of barbed wire, with a wide, empty sky pressing down from above.
The muted, mismatched trousers and the hand-drawn wire keep it human and unheroic; the emptiness is the point. It is a cover about the thresholds people are made to wait at.
