Artists in Exile

As an illustrator and graphic designer, I try to integrate drawing into any design project I work on. In 2024 I was invited to a symposium titled Artists in Exile, organised by Suad Ussayran and Sana Taha at Boğaziçi University in Istanbul.

Because I had a symbol I invented years earlier for exiles — the moving tree — I suggested to the organisers that I design the poster myself. The moving tree became the primary symbol, set within a harmonious arrangement of the event's information and its participants.

Simplicity was key, so the design is black and white. And to give the tree a character unique to this project, I deliberately wrote the event's name into the tree itself.
